Cassatt Reconsidered: A Lecture by Mary G. Morton

National Gallery of Art curator on Mary Cassatt

Mary G. Morton, curator and head of French paintings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., gives a talk drawn from her new book, Cassatt Reconsidered. She makes the case that Mary Cassatt was far more than a painter of mothers and children: an intellectually ambitious, daring and thoroughly modern artist of her time.

Morton has organized projects on Courbet, Gauguin, Caillebotte, Cézanne and Corot at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Getty and the National Gallery, and co-organized Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment with the Musée d'Orsay. Tickets are $15, $10 for SBMA members and seniors, and free for students with ID. Check in before the start; reserved seats are held for 10 minutes, then may go to the waitlist.
